Decisions we help you make

  • Does an alternative investment have a place in my portfolio?
  • How long could my money be tied up, and what happens if I need it sooner?
  • Should I borrow to invest, and how much debt is sensible for my position?
  • How does a private or unlisted investment compare with what I already hold?
  • Am I eligible for wholesale offers, and what protections do I give up?

How we help

What the advice covers

Alternative investments and investment lending can play a part in a wider plan, but they come with features that need careful thought. We look at what an option is designed to do, what it costs and what you give up to hold it.

  • Unlisted and private investments. Property, private equity, private credit and infrastructure, including how each is valued and when you can exit.
  • Managed funds across asset classes. How a fund’s strategy, fees and liquidity terms compare with what you already hold.
  • Hedge funds and other complex strategies. What drives returns, how risk is managed and what you are paying for.
  • Margin lending and investment loans. How borrowing affects your cash flow, your exposure to falling markets and your capacity to meet repayments.
  • Wholesale eligibility. What qualifying as a wholesale investor changes, and the protections that no longer apply.

How it fits your wider plan

An alternative investment is rarely a decision on its own. We consider how much of your portfolio could sensibly be locked away, how lending sits alongside your mortgage and other debt, and whether your cash reserves and insurance still hold up if conditions change.

We do not arrange loans. Where lending is involved, we consider how the options fit and work with your broker. Where a structure raises tax or legal questions, we involve your accountant or lawyer.

Who it suits

  • Professionals and executives with established portfolios who are being offered private or unlisted opportunities
  • Business owners weighing whether to borrow to invest outside the business
  • Families and retirees who want a clear view of the access and risk trade-offs before committing

Common questions about alternative investments & lending

What counts as an alternative investment?

Generally, anything outside listed shares, bonds and cash. That can include unlisted property, private equity, private credit, infrastructure and hedge funds, each with different risks, costs and access terms.

Do you arrange loans?

No. We consider how borrowing to invest fits your cash flow, risk and goals. Where a loan is needed, we work with your broker or lender, who arranges it.

Are alternative investments riskier than shares?

Not always, but the risks are often different. Many are harder to sell, less transparent and valued less often, so we explain those features before you decide.

What is a wholesale investor?

It is a legal classification that gives access to offers not available to retail investors. Those offers carry fewer disclosure requirements and protections, so we explain what that means for you before you proceed.
